Um...while I don't approve of fishing or hunting as bonding experiences (I think of them like serial killer training camp...lol) I think it sounds like you're doing an okay job...but um, he is basically an adult at sixteen. You're maybe a bit better off being his friend then his mentor. Still... Your attitude towards your child's possessions is something I wish more parents would take. During the teen years, security is a key feeling and being able to have something that they can "own" makes them stable.

Cowboy - It's never been more true. At my grandmother's house when we washed clothes it was by hand and with lye soap and a wash board. You should get the best answer!

This is mostly a habit in the Southeastern United States. Most known as "Rednecks". Raised with the habit of saying things like "bed mattress" instead of mattress, "laying hen" instead of hen, "window blinds" instead of blinds, "fishhook" instead of hook. I guess they want to be specific because some rednecks may not be able to discern the way you are using the word. If I say, "Put my clothes in the washer" I might want to specify washing machine or they may wind up in a # 10 wash tub.

Kwikfish aren't going to be effective in shallow, slow water. They're truly only useful when they're plunked in moving current or trolled. Yes, I've cast/retrieved them, but catching one that way is a rarity and is only going to yield fish if they are actively moving upstream through a fishable seam.
I would throw spinners in shallower water. Sizes 2-5 are typically good. Stay with staple colors, eg. silver, gold, silver w/green blade. They're super easy to control for depth and speed, and are much better suited to slower water. Spoons can be used too, but I prefer to use them when the current speed is approximately "walking-pace."
Good luck.

Did you ever think that it is just you that calls it "Tuna Fish"? Take cans of Tuna as an example. There is not a single can of tuna that has the phrase "Tuna Fish" printed on it.

It is a fish. Some other fish have "fish" as part of the name, too: Skillet Fish, Goatfish, Angelfish, Pipefish, etc.
If you want another reason, maybe it's to distinguish the tuna fish from the "tuna," which is the fruit of the prickly pear cactus.
