New to the area and want to find a good fishing spot near the NW side of town.

    Site Information
    Bank fishing access, no boats or swimming allowed. The park has picnic tables, portable restrooms, a playground, lighted jogging track and team sports facilities.

    Driving Directions
    From San Antonio, take I-35 south to Loop 410. Merge right onto Loop 410. Exit Old Pearsall Road. Lake will be on your left at 6075 Old Pearsall Rd.

    2 Espada Park Lake, 19 acres
    Site Information
    Good bank access, no boats or swimming allowed. Picnic tables, restrooms and a jogging track are located in the park.

    Driving Directions
    Look for entrance on SE Military Drive (loop 13) between Roosevelt Ave. and S. Presa St.

    3 Hi-Lions Pond, 10 acres
    Site Information
    Excellent, shaded bank access, no boats or swimming. The park offers picnic tables, restrooms, a playground and a jogging track. Three pavilions are available by reservation.

    Driving Directions
    From I-10 east of downtown, exit Pecan Valley Drive south to Southside Lions Park. From I-37, exit Southcross Blvd., go east and turn left on Pecan Valley.

    4 Braunig Lake, 1,298 acres
    Site Information
    This power plant reservoir has a boat ramp and excellent bank access. Picnic areas, primitive camping, restrooms, boat rentals and concessions are available in the park. One day use fee covers both Braunig and Calaveras lakes.

    Take exit 130 from I-37 South.

    5 Calaveras Lake, 3,450 acres
    Site Information
    Power Plant reservoir with boat ramp and bank access, with picnic areas, camping, restrooms, boat rentals and concessions in the park.

    Driving Directions
    Take I-37 south to U.S. 181 east, turn northeast on Loop 1604 and take Stuart Road to park.

    6 Brackenridge Park, San Antonio River
    (Trout stocking)

    Site Information
    Good bank access. This well-developed park offers picnic areas, restrooms, covered pavilions and many other services.

    Driving Directions
    From I-37/McAllister Freeway, take Hildebrand east to north park entrance or Mulberry east to south entrance.

    7 Live Oak City Lake, 30 acres
    Site Information
    Good bank access, no boats or swimming. Picnic tables, restrooms, covered pavilions and team sports facilities are available in the park.

    Located just east of I-35 in the City of Live Oak. Take Toepperwein Rd. south to Narrow Pass, turn right on Lone Shadow and left on Lazy Forest

    8 Lake Dunlap, 410 acres
    Site Information
    Boat ramp and limited bank access; No other facilities.

    Driving Directions
    Take I-35 north to City of New Braunfels. Ramp is on north bank of Guadalupe River directly below the bridge.

    9 Lake McQueeney, 400 acres
    Site Information
    Bank access is limited to the marina. Picnic tables, restrooms and RV camping are available. $3 day use fee; $5 to use boat ramp.

    Driving Directions
    Take I-10 east or I-35 north to FM 725 exit. Take FM 725 to Happy Haven Road and follow Terminal Loop Road to marina.

    10 Lake Placid, 400 acres
    Site Information
    Boat ramp and limited bank access; no other facilities.

    Driving Directions
    Take I-10 east to Exit 605. The ramp is located under the bridge.

    11 Canyon Lake, 8,240 acres
    Site Information
    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Comal County operate more than a dozen parks on this lake. Most parks have boat ramps, bank fishing access, picnic areas and campgrounds. Some are closed at certain times of the year; contact the Corps for current information.

    Driving Directions
    Take I-35 north to the City of New Braunfels and exit west on FM 306 to reach lake area. Parks are located in various communities around the lake shore.

    12 Medina Lake, 4,246 acres
    Site Information
    A county park at the end of Park Road 37 offers a boat ramp, dock and some bank access along with restrooms and a swimming area. Commercial facilities are available in the town of Mico on the south side of the lake off FM 1283.

    Driving Directions
    Take Texas 16 northwest to Park Road 37. To reach Mico, take 16 to Leon Valley, turn left on FM 471, and turn right onto FM 1283 just west of the Bexar County line.

    I’ve been to Canyon Lake numerous times and it’s a lot of fun. For fishing and general family fun. The water is very clean. There is trout, white bass, and a few other species in abundance. You can also fish behind the damn/spillway for some good trout action.
