What kind of bait would we use if fishing off the pier in Ocean City, NJ?

I’m taking my son camping in Ocean City, NJ this weekend and promised him he could fish for a bit. While we do a lot of freshwater fishing in local lakes and streams, we’ve never tried fishing in the ocean. What would be the best bait to use if fishing off the pier? (I don’t think he really cares what kind of fish he catches…as long as he catches something). Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!!

OK. Either clams, spearing(small fish) or sand worms.
Get them at a local bait shop.
Also, when buying clams, you have to buy a special thread to tie them on or they fall off wen casting. Also use a 2 inch hook.
Get the sinkers that look like little pyramids. They work well.
Make sure u have a big pole also. Your son will be reelin in some nice fish if you follow those directions!!
